Important Information

-Please check your child's assignment book daily. We write down what we will be working on in each subject that day, and then record any homework in it at the end of the day.
-If you haven't paid PTA and classroom dues, please make sure you do soon! The PTA supports many valuable programs at West Maple and our school wouldn't be the same without it! Classroom dues support all holiday parties and cover the cost of your child's assignment book. The classroom dues are $13.50.
-If you would like to sign up to volunteer to help in the classroom or for any of the fourth grade holiday parties, please contact me. We could always use your help!
-Please make sure your child has the appropriate cold weather items at school daily!

This Week In...

Reading Workshop - We have started book clubs. Students are currently reading Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. We have spent a lot of time discussing what book clubs look like and sound like and are ready for in-depth discussion about our book.

Math Workshop - We've just finished Unit 2 which was a review of finding landmarks in data (mean, median, mode, range, maximum, and minimum), multi-digit subtraction and addition, and creating bar graphs. Our test for Unit 2 will be on Friday, October 19.

Science- The students will work to analyze a music system. They will also explore a subsystem. The students will use their review packet to help them prepare for their first science test. Due to MEAP testing the science test is being rescheduled.

Social Studies - Students are learning all about maps! We are carefully analyzing physical maps and special purpose maps such as elevation maps, precipitation maps, population density maps, and regional maps. We are practicing finding places on our maps using longitude and latitude coordinates.

Writing Workshop - We are working to finish our literary essays. Students have used their self-selected reading book to think about what the story is really about and develop a thesis stating their ideas. They then found evidence in their story that supports what they think about their book. Our next piece will be a personal narrative.
